How to play Warfare - Moving/Grouping/Targeting

This is a guide to teach the basics of movement, grouping and targeting.

Controling and grouping your AI

In order to effectively move and engage the enemy, you have to get a grip on your soldiers.. There are many many things you can get your AI to do. To access some of these features, select the AI you want to command by hitting f1,f2 or whatever number he is, or alternatively hold spacebar which will select all. From there ytou select a sub menu. Here is a brief guide to what each number does.

2. targeting/

3.fire modes

4.get in vehicles/other actions

5.status

6.use specialty i.e repair or heal, pick up or drop equipment.

7.threat/awareness level

8.formation

9.grouping.

I won't get into details, but if you wanted all of your soldiers to attack the RPG infantrymen to the left, you would go spacebar,2,(select enemy from list). left click.

to get all of your troops to go to a specific location, spacebar, clcik on move, left click on map.

to get all your troops to get in a transport truck, spacebar,4,select vehicle, left click.

Targeting

Targeting is done in one of three ways.

Either you select the unit that you wish to engage and hit 2, select target, left mouse click. or you can hit TAB (only in a vehicle though). Hitting tab usually targets the closest enemy to you, and then you must engage by left mouse clicking, or if machine gun is selected they will automatically engage as long as they are set to 'fire at will' (select unit,3,engage at will).

The third method is right click on the main "world" window. If there are infantry hiding in a woodline for example, you could right click randomly at the trees and SOMETIMES your ai will pick up a target.

Use all three methods in conjuction to ensure faster target aquiring.

If you are an a vehicle equipped with a cannon or missles, the target reticle will overlay a circle on top of the green square to indicate weapon is lined up with the target. a fast beeping noise known as a " hot tone" or 'tone lock" indicates missle or rocket is locked on, and will guide to the target.

A TOW launcher will allow manual guidance to the target via mouse, but if you hold right mouse button down it will lock with 'tone' to auto guide to the target.

Movement

Movement is a bit tricky in Warfare. AI tend to get stuck, not stick to roads, or not climb/navigate wooded or mountainous regions very well. If you want to move all of your ai that are in an open field to a town center, simply go spacebar and click on an area in main viewer, or map.. This will trigger all of your ai units to converge on a single point.

If you are trying to get ai to move long distances, it is best to break the move up to several legs or waypoints. In a vehicle, always try and steer ai to the nearest road, and have them follow the road to the next crossroad that you would like them to travel. Keep choosing a distance no greater than 1000m and preferably in a straight line.

if you have multiple vehcile units, instead of groupling them all together with spacebar, select each individual unit and tell him to move to the selected point. then do this for the next, and so on. The reason for this is sometimes the units that are closest to the objective, will often return to a central point to link up with their team mates. So if you have a tank 800m away from the objective, and a group of IFV's 2500m away, the tank will sometimes travel in the wrong direction in order to meet up with the other vehicles.
